On August 28, 2017, to kick off the beginning of the fall semester of school, TN-China Network’s Executive Director Elizabeth Rowland held a training for incoming foreign students studying at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville. Coming from China, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries, the students face a variety of intercultural communication opportunities and challenges when integrating into the US educational system and the culture of their American home-stay families. During the training, we had an interactive discussion of stereotypes, cultural assumptions, indirect versus direct communication, collectivism versus individualism, cultural norms, eating etiquette, communication with home-stay families, cultural differences within the US education system, tolerance of failure, teamwork, and more.
TN-China Network can create a customized cultural training for your school or company as well! To learn about topics your training could cover or to schedule a training, visit the TN-China Network training webpage or contact Elizabeth Rowland at firstname.lastname@example.org.
