    Time to Register for Non-Credit Chinese Classes This Fall

     

    Language schools across the state have opened registration for Fall 2017 non-credit Mandarin Chinese language and culture courses. The classes offered are listed below:

     

    Middle Tennessee

     

    Nashville

     

    Beginner and Intermediate Level Adult Classes

    Time: Saturday, Aug. 12 – Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, 9:30am to 11:20am CT

    Location: Nashville Chinese School (NCS), H.G. Hill Middle School, 150 Davidson Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37205 (Classroom TBA)

    Price: $345 (Tuition $295 + Facility Fee $50)

    Chinese 1.1

    Time: Thursday, Sept. 14 – Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, 6:00pm to 8:00pm CT

    Location: Tennessee Foreign Language Institute, 220 French Landing Drive, First Floor, Nashville, Tennessee 37243 (Classroom TBA)

    Price: Tuition $375

    Organizer: Tennessee Foreign Language Institute

    Course Details: No previous experience is required to take this class. During this course, you will learn to introduce yourself, give your age, say where you’re from and what your job is, greet others, speak about your family members, and invite people to dinner. You will be comfortable reading Chinese characters, using a dictionary and will learn to use Pinyin (the official transcription system from Mainland China) to type characters on your computer/phone. You will be introduced to the Chinese-speaking world and its culture.

    Chinese Levels 1 Through 8

    Time: Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017 – Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, 2:30pm to 4:30pm CT

    Location: Greater Memphis Chinese School – Riverdale Campus, 7391 Neshoba, Germantown, TN 38138 (Class room varies; please see the class schedule below.)

    Price: Tuition $100, and book fee $20

    Organizer: Greater Memphis Chinese School

    East Tennessee

     

    Chattanooga

     

    Chinese for Travelers (Conversational Chinese/Mandarin) Level 1

    Time: Sunday, September 10, 2017 – Sunday, December 17, 2017, 1:45pm to 3:45pm ET

    Location: Chattanooga State Community College-Main Campus, Omniplex 114, 4501 Amnicola Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421

    Price: $199 (There is no text required for this class.  Students may subscribe to and use Chinesepod.com as additional resource)

    Organizer: Chattanooga State Community College

    Course Details:  This class allows students to acquire the ability to speak Chinese with no previous exposure to the language. Classes are designed for travelers or anyone desiring a working knowledge of Chinese language. The conversational approach provides students with immediate speaking ability in useful and practical vocabulary.

    Knoxville

     

    Fall 2017 Non-Credit Chinese Courses (Section 1)

    Time: Late August through mid October 2017

    Location: University of Tennessee – Knoxville Campus, International House, 1623 Melrose Ave, Knoxville, TN 37996, classrooms vary depending on course

    Price: The course fee is $120; receive 50% off with a valid UT ID; register by Aug. 16 for a 25% discount.

     Organizer: University of Tennessee – Knoxville Confucius Institute

    Course Details: The Confucius Institute at UT (CI@UT) is offering the first section of non-credit Chinese courses in Fall 2017 from August 29th. The courses offered in Section 1 are:

    • Basic Chinese 1
    • Basic Chinese 2
    • Intermediate Chinese
    • Chinese Culture
